The spring 2009 issue of NCAA Champion magazine is now available online at www.NCAAChampionMagazine.org.

Highlights in this issue of the Association’s quarterly publication include three in-depth features – one examining administrators and coaches who also teach in the classroom; one studying wood bats in college baseball; and another on unusual streaks in college sports, including Penn State’s consecutive set streak in women’s volleyball, Kenyon’s championship run in men’s swimming and a 61-game hitting streak by a Salve Regina baseball player.

The “Faces of the NCAA” section this time features retiring Pacific-10 Conference Commissioner Tom Hansen, who has spent almost five decades in intercollegiate athletics. West Texas A&M President Pat O’Brien and Columbia Athletics Director M. Dianne Murphy also are featured.

Among other stories are short features about an early learning program established in Detroit as part of a Men’s Final Four “legacy” project, the NCAA’s transition of injury-surveillance data to the Datalys Center and a review structure to help Division I institutions identify incoming student-athletes who may be susceptible to academic challenges.

The online version of this issue will be presented differently. All stories will appear in the same form as they appeared in the magazine. Those interested will be able to download 200 dpi PDF images of each page. They also will be able to crop any page to capture the particular content that interests them.

The next issue of Champion will be published in July.
