NCAA Executive Vice President Bernard Franklin has been selected for induction into the John McLendon Minority Athletics Administrators Hall of Fame.

The National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics administers the McLendon program.

Franklin, who oversees governance, academic and membership affairs, educational affairs, research, and diversity and inclusion at the NCAA national office, will be recognized June 19 during the NACDA convention in Orlando.

Other inductees are Anita DeFrantz, the first African-American and first American woman to serve on the International Olympic Committee; Willie O’Ree, the NHL’s director of youth development for diversity programming and the first black player in the league; Gale Sayers, the first black Division I athletics director at Southern Illinois University; Gene Washington, the NFL’s director of football operations and first black quarterback at Stanford; and Bob Watson, MLB’s vice president of on-field operations and the first African-American MLB general manager (Houston Astros).

Among Franklin’s responsibilities at the NCAA national office are to assure the development of policies and procedures that support the effective functioning of the governance groups and to work closely with the president to support the NCAA Executive Committee.

Franklin previously served as president of Virginia Union University, Livingstone College and Hood Theological Seminary and Saint Augustine’s College. He is a former chair of the NCAA Division II Presidents Council and a former member of the Executive Committee.
