The NCAA News

Nominations are being accepted for vacancies that will occur in September 2010.

The vacancies are on Divisions I and II general committees; Divisions I, II and III sports committees; and Association-wide and common committees.

A total of 182 vacancies are anticipated on NCAA committees in September 2010, including 128 vacancies on division-specific committees and 54 on Association-wide and common committees.

The deadline for submission of nomination materials for all of the vacancies listed on the accompanying chart is December 4. Most of the September 2010 committee vacancies likely will be filled by the end of April 2010.

Each division’s nominees for division-specific and Association-wide and common-committee vacancies will be considered through the processes that have been established in each division. Information about each division’s process, as well as information about specific committee vacancies, follows. Committee administration information also is available online.

Division I (see vacancy chart)

A total of 67 vacancies will be filled on Division I-specific general and sports committees, and at least 28 vacancies will be filled on Association-wide or common committees.

Nominations will be accepted only from the 31 conferences represented in the governance structure (the conferences are listed in Constitution 4.2.1 of the 2009-10 Division I Manual).

Regardless of whether an individual has been nominated previously, the conference must submit nomination materials for each nominee. Division I nominations remain active in the database for one year. If an individual is eligible for reappointment, the individual’s conference must submit a nomination form to confirm the conference’s support of the reappointment. Reappointment is at the discretion of the appointing body.

Information will be compiled and forwarded to the Division I Administration Cabinet.

This article does not contain information regarding Division I Board of Directors, Councils, cabinets or Student-Athlete Advisory Committee vacancies. That information will be sent directly to the Division I conferences later.

Division II (see vacancy chart)

A total of 29 vacancies will be filled on Division II-specific general and sports committees and at least five vacancies will be filled on Association-wide and common committees.

In Division II, self-nominations and nominations by peers are accepted. Division II nominations remain active in the database for 18 months. Nominations should be completed online. The Division II access code and password are available upon request.

Information will be compiled and provided to the Division II Nominating Committee, which will meet in January 2010 to formulate recommendations.

Recommendations for appointments to sports committees will be forwarded to the Division II Championships Committee for selection and then to the Division II Management Council for ratification. Recommendations for appointments to Division II general committees will be forwarded to the Management Council for selection and then to the Division II Presidents Council for ratification.

Division III (see vacancy chart)

A total of 32 vacancies will be filled on Division III-specific sports committees and at least 12 vacancies will be filled on Association-wide committees.

In Division III, self-nominations and nominations by peers are accepted. Division III nominations remain active in the database for two years. Nominations should be completed online. The Division III access code and password are available upon request.

Information will be compiled and provided to the Division III Nominating Committee, which will meet in February 2010 to formulate recommendations.

Recommendations for appointments to the sports committees will be forwarded to the Division III Championships Committee for approval.

Association-wide/common committees

Each division will solicit and select nominees for Association-wide and common committees using the same procedures detailed above for division-specific committees.
