Final Four betting ban the correct call
The NCAA recently announced an agreement with the government of Ontario (Canada) to suspend betting on NCAA Division I basketball games starting March 30 through April 6 at Caesars Windsor.

Playoff beards at American
The men's basketball team at American University has taken a page from the guys in the National Hockey League: playoff beards. Also, American is live-blogging the team's run through the Patriot League Tournament. Check it out here.

Penn State's buzzer beater
Penn State's Talor Battle hit the game-winning shot with 0.3 seconds left to cap the Nittany Lions rally from a 10-point deficit. The 64-63 win over Illinois gave Penn State a school-record 15 home wins this season.

SEC's commissioner gets 3-year deal
Southeastern Conference commissioner Mike Slive has agreed to a three-year contract extensionhttp:/i.ixnp.com/images/v3.70/t.gif through July 31, 2012. Slive has also served as coordinator of the Bowl Championship Series and is currently the chair of the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Committee.

Bill would cut high school sports
A North Carolina state lawmaker has proposed a billhttp:/i.ixnp.com/images/v3.70/t.gif that would "bar interscholastic athletics at schools where more than half of the students score below the 50th percentile on end-of-grade or end-of-course tests for at least two straight years."

Killing the home court advantage
A Wisconsin school's athletic director is trying to crack down on student fans who turn their backs on opposing teams or chant disparaging remarks in violation of state athletic association rules.  That includes using phrases like “what’s the score,” “overrated,” “airball,” and even singing “nah-nah-nah-nah, nah-nah-nah-nah, hey-hey-hey, good bye.”
