Salary vs. scholarship: Should student-athletes decide?
I'll admit to a guilty pleasure: I usually enjoy reading Indianapolis Star columnist Bob Kravitz. Last week, however, I thought he whiffed by suggesting that Division I athletes be offered a choice between a full scholarship and a salary.

Women's field taking shape
Three teams punched tickets to the Women's NCAA Tournament on Monday. Seven other schools already clinched automatic bids. Today, the Sun Belt, Summit and Big East Conference finals will give three more schools automatic bids.
Pacers can't cover costs of Conseco Fieldhouse
The Indianapolis Star reports the Indiana Pacers will lose $30 million this season and can't afford to operate Conseco Fieldhouse. According to the newspaper, "operating the arena costs $15 million a year. If the Pacers can't pay those bills the debt would fall to the Capital Improvement Board, which also has financial troubles."
Division II Sports Festival begins today
Division II will host its fourth National Championships Festival - and its first winter-sports version - beginning today in Houston. The NCAA News will provide daily coverage of festival events at www.ncaa.org
Another day, another 90-footer
I never get tired of watching those buzzer-beaters. The latest addition to the collection is from a high school playoff game in Ohio. Dayton Christian High School guard Casey Weber knocked down a 90-foot shot at the end of the third quarter.
Oklahoma's Paris makes
During her speech on senior night, Oklahoma's Courtney Paris guaranteed the team would win a national championship. If the Sooners fall short of a national title Paris told the crowd she will repay her scholarship.
