Governor embarrassed by Calhoun's comments
Connecticut Governor Jodi Rell was less than thrilled with University of Connecticut Head Coach Jim Calhoun's answer to a question during a postgame press conference Saturday. Calhoun took exception to a question asking if he would consider giving up part of his $1.6 million salary, given the state's budget crisis.
ACC Tournament not immune from economic downturn
For the first time since 1966, tickets for next month's Atlantic Coast Conference men's basketball are available for the general public to purchase. ACC commissioner John Swofford attributed the availability to a "unique combination of playing this year's tournament in a dome during very trying economic times."
Tiger back on the prowl
The world's most famous golfer returns to the links today. Tiger Woods tees off at the Accenture Match Play Championship. Woods last competitive round of golf was a 9-hole playoff victory over Rocco Mediate for the U.S. Open title at Torrey Pines in San Diego.
Pickens' promotion a slam dunk
Oklahoma State's most famous booster is helping out his school again. In an effort to raise attendance, students at Oklahoma State University can attend the final two men's home basketball games for $10. Boone Pickens is underwriting the cost of the promotion.
No. 1 dethroned, again
The only consistency found in this year's Division I men's college basketball polls has been the inconsistency of the No. 1 seed. Pittsburgh is the latest top-seeded team to fall, losing to unranked Providence 81-73.
