Miami saves money with charter buses
For the first time in almost 10 years, the Miami Hurricanes football team will travel by bus to an away football game. The university announced it will charter buses instead of planes this fall for trips to Central Florida and South Florida.

Nice gesture from University of Arkansas student-athletes
The student-athletes from the University of Arkansas sent along a signed get-well banner for Dr. Myles Brand. The banner is hanging in the NCAA national office.

Harris named Ivy
Robin Harris, senior counsel at Ice Miller LLP, will be the new executive director of the Ivy Group, effective July 1. She will replace Jeff Orleans, who announced last year that he will retire June 30, 2009.

Bowl game looking for new title sponsor
Sign of the times?  The St. Petersburg Bowl is searching for another title sponsor after magicJack did not extend its naming rights deal past the inaugural game.

Fresno State feels effects of economic downturn
According to the Fresno Bee, [Fresno State] officials project income of $24 million in the 2008-09 fiscal year ending June 30, more than 5% under budget. Projected expenditures are almost $25.2 million.

Krzyzewskiville can be a dangerous
A Duke student was diagnosed with bacterial meningitis after camping outside Cameron Indoor Stadium for tickets to the Duke-North Carolina game. The tradition of camping out for tickets in
Krzyzewskiville has been in practice on the Duke campus since 1986. The student's "tentmates" and roommates are being preemptively treated with antibiotics.

Teixeira endows scholarship at alma mater
Yankees outfielder Mark Teixeira pledged $500,000 to endow a baseball scholarship annually at Georgia Tech. He was named national freshman of the year in 1999 and national player of the year in 2000.
