Golf's segregated, overlooked past finally gets spotlight
Tonight, the Golf Channel is presenting a well-publicized documentary on the sport's largely-unknown segregated history. Before 1961, the PGA had a "Caucasian only" requirement for all its participants. As a result, African American golfers could only compete against one another in United Golf Association competitions.

Football attendance continues to rise amid economic
Even in hard economic times, it looks like people still need to get their fill of college football," writes the NCAA News' Gary Johnson. "For the third straight season, football attendance set a new standard as the 628 NCAA schools combined for a total gate of 48,839,003 during the 2008 season, topping last season's record by 87,142 fans."

Dueling 7-footers in same town
You don't see this very often. The smallest town in Mississippi, Port Gibson, has two 7-footers playing at each of the community's schools.

Fresno State going with younger, less expensive coaches
"Salaries for assistant coaches are astronomical," Fresno State Head Coach Pat Hill told the Fresno Bee. "Right now, in this financial market, you have to go after younger coaches. I've gone with older, established, out-of-work coaches and we lose them very, very quickly.

Utah football team honored by state
The University of Utah's football team was recognized on Monday for its undefeated season and Sugar Bowl victory over Alabama.  Just before the team was honored, senators unanimously approved another resolution calling for a national college football playoff system.

Central Florida helps fans during economic downturn
University of Central Florida announced single-game ticket prices will remain the same price as last season. Also, the school has given fans the option of setting up payment plans for their season tickets.
