The National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics announced that the late Andy Mooradian, former director of athletics at New Hampshire, has been selected posthumously as the recipient of the 43rd James J. Corbett Memorial Award.

Mooradian, a NACDA Hall of Fame member and past president, was AD at New Hampshire for 21 years (1966-87), although his association with the university spanned 45 years.

He came to the Durham campus in 1942, playing football, basketball and baseball. After serving in the military in World War II, he returned to the university, graduating in 1948.

Mooradian’s daughter, Jody, the senior associate AD at Boston College, said, “My father would be unbelievably humbled to receive this award. He would feel like he didn’t deserve it, but that it is a wonderful cap to a wonderful career.”

NACDA presents the Corbett Award annually to the collegiate administrator who “through the years has most typified Corbett’s devotion to intercollegiate athletics and worked unceasingly for its betterment.” Corbett, former athletics director at LSU, was NACDA’s first president in 1965. As part of the award, Mooradian’s family will receive an honorary degree from the Sports Management Institute, an educational institute sponsored by NACDA and the universities of Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Southern California and Texas.

Mooradian served as president of NACDA during 1985-86. He served on the NCAA Council, was executive director of the Yankee Conference, president of the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Association and president of the North Athletic Conference.

In October 1994, New Hampshire named its football stadium field in Mooradian’s honor. In addition, the Andrew Mooradian Endowed Scholarship Fund was established in 1995 by family, friends and the university community in his memory. The fund provides a permanent source of support for the New Hampshire football team.
