Two schools, Duke in Division I and Williams in Division III, will share the 2009 Eastern College Athletic Conference’s Jostens Institution of the Year Award.

It is the first time the ECAC has presented to award to two institutions in the same year.

Williams became the only five-time recipient of the award during its 15-year history, while Duke received the honor for the first time. The schools will be honored October 6 during an honors luncheon at the ECAC Fall Convention and Trade Show.

The institutional award is given annually to the ECAC member that best exemplifies the highest standards of collegiate academic and athletics performance.

In addition to winning the last 11 straight Division III Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup awards and claiming 10 New England Small College Athletic Conference championships during 2008-09, 165 Williams junior and senior student-athletes claimed NESCAC all-academic honors during the year.

Duke, which finished 17th in the Division I Directors’ Cup rankings for 2008-09, had six teams rank in the top 10 nationally in their sports, including the Division I champion women’s tennis team. Meanwhile, nine Duke student-athletes earned Academic All-America honors.
