Double-A Zone RewindHope-Calvin adds another chapter to storied rivalry
Many call Hope-Calvin the best rivalry in Division III sports. Few can argue that claim after this week’s men's basketball thriller.
Calvin's Matt Veltema scored the game-winning layup with 2.7 seconds left to give the Knights an exhilarating 63-62 win over archrival Hope last night. Veltema's lone bucket of the night capped a four-point Calvin comeback in the game's final minute, and led to an all-out storming of the court by the Calvin students. Michigan Winter Sports Extravaganza wrap-up video
Last weekend, the Double-A Zone completed the Michigan Winter Sports Extravaganza. On the trip, we attended 10 Division I, II and III college sporting events around the state, which included seven different sports.

Committee committed to academic reform
Next week, the Division I Committee on Academic Performance will hear its first appeals of historically based Academic Performance Program penalties. Cynics might look at the waivers and appeals process as a way to give some teams a "free pass" to continue to perform poorly in the classroom, but I've attended enough CAP meetings to know that won't be the case.
