CoSIDA tabs men’s basketball academic all-AmericansThe College Sports Information Directors of America chose North Dakota State’s Brett Winkelman and MIT’s Jimmy Bartolotta as the 2008-09 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-Americans of the Year for men’s basketball.
Winkelman, honored in the university division, has been named to the Academic All-American team for the third straight season and is the only repeat selection on the first team. The senior forward is a three-year starter and is the second-leading scorer for the Bison this season. He is an industrial engineering and management major with a 3.88 grade-point average.
College division honoree Bartolotta is a management science and physics major with a 3.63 grade-point average. The senior guard is MIT’s career scoring leader with 2,154 points. The two-time all-New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference first-team selection and three-time academic all-conference selection volunteers his time at the Cambridge Community Charter School, mentoring middle school children
