Jonathan Hall of Carnegie Mellon and Simon Ejdemyr of New Mexico, Navy’s Beth Reed, and Grand Valley State’s Natalja Stanski were chosen recently as 2009 ESPN the Magazine Academic all-Americans of the year for men’s and women’s soccer.

The College Sports Information Directors of America conducts the program.

Hall, a senior, was chosen as the academic all-American of the year for the second straight year and becomes the first student-athlete to win the honor twice for men’s soccer in the college division since the award was established in 2001. The business administration and finance major, who maintains a perfect grade-point average, is one of five Tartans named as first team academic all-Americans, making Carnegie Mellon the first men’s soccer program to place five student-athletes on an academic all-American soccer team.

A three-time ESPN the Magazine academic all-America pick and a two-time first-team selection, Ejdemyr is a political science major and carries a 4.0 GPA. Named to the MPSF all-conference first team for four straight years, the senior has been a starter in 71 of 72 career games.

Reed, a senior goalkeeper at Navy, is a mechanical engineering major who ranks second in overall Order of Merit among 1,054 midshipmen in the Class of 2010. Honored as the Patriot League’s goalkeeper of the week three times this season, she led the conference with a 0.69 goals against average and set a single-season school record with nine shutouts. Reed also plays basketball at Navy.

Grand Valley State senior defender Stanski is biomechanical science major with a 4.0 GPA. She has helped the Lakers post 13 shutouts, compile a 19-0-3 mark and earn a top five national ranking this season. In addition, she started 18 games and appeared in a total of 21 matches for the Lakers in 2009. Last season, she earned GLIAC defensive player of the year and led Grand Valley State to a 21-1 record and the conference championship.
