The College Sports Information Directors of America recently selected Arizona State pitcher Mike Leake and Cal State Dominguez Hill first baseman Jon Alia as Academic All-Americans of the Year for baseball.

Leake, a junior management major, leads Division I with 14 victories in 15 appearances, including 14 starts. He was a first-team all-American as a freshman and is a two-time first-team all-Pacific-10 Conference honoree. A finalist for the College Baseball Foundation’s National Pitcher of the Year, Leake has helped the Sun Devils capture three straight Pac-10 championships and their 10th consecutive NCAA tournament berth.

Alia, the California Collegiate Athletic Association Player of the Year, was a kinesiology major. A two-year starter at first base for the Toros, the senior set school records in batting average (.467), home runs (20), runs batted in (78), base hits (98), doubles (25) and total bases (187). Alia was recognized by the NCAA on National Student-Athlete Day for his work in the classroom and in the community.
