Championships director leaves national office post

NCAA Director of Championships Wayne Burrow has announced he will leave the national office’s championships group, effective February 13.

Burrow, who oversaw championships projects and programs since being promoted in 2002, joined the national office staff in 1991 as an assistant director of championships and subsequently was promoted to associate director.

He has served as staff liaison to the Division I Baseball, Division III Football, and Division I Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Committees. Burrow also was secondary liaison to Division III Championships Committee, the Olympic Sports Liaison Committee and the former Division I Championships/Competition Cabinet.

He also has served as championships manager for Division II baseball, Division II women’s basketball, National Collegiate men’s and women’s fencing, National Collegiate men’s gymnastics, National Collegiate women’s lacrosse, Division III women’s soccer, Division II men’s and women’s swimming and diving, National Collegiate women’s water polo and Division I wrestling. 

In addition to those responsibilities, Burrow also has served recently as staff liaison to the NCAA Baseball and Softball Umpire Improvement Programs and has been a member of USA Diving’s board of directors.

Before joining the NCAA, Burrow was assistant athletics director for marketing and promotions at William and Mary. He also was on the athletics staffs at Texas and Army.

Burrow earned his undergraduate degree from William and Mary. He also has a master’s degree in sports administration from Ohio.
