The Division I-AAA Athletics Directors Association will present Wright State Athletics Director Mike Cusack with the Gary Cunningham Lifetime Achievement Award at the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics convention next week.
The award is the highest honor presented by the DI-AAA ADA.
Cusack became Wright State’s second director of athletics in April 1982, replacing Don Mohr who started the program and retired in 1982. In 1987, Cusack shepherded the program to Division I. He oversaw several building projects during his tenure and worked to get student-athletes more involved.
Earlier this year, Cusack announced he will retire June 30. In September, he will begin developing a new sports management certification at Wright State and will teach in the education school. He will continue to fund-raise for the athletics department.
