Since 1997, a Dombrowksi brother has played soccer for the Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panthers. That streak will end when youngest brother Zeke graduates in May.
Each brother – Scott (1997-2000), Chad (1999-2002), Tighe (2000-03), Neil (2002-05) and Zeke (2004-07) – was a four-year letter-winner and helped the Panthers to a 136-80 record over the last decade-plus.
Scott, currently the coach of the Milwaukee Bavarians U-17 team, began the Dombrowksi tradition of attending Wisconsin-Milwaukee because it was close to home and his father took him to games at the school as a child.
“I did not see the potential for all of us to go to Wisconsin-Milwaukee when I was there," Scott said. "We talked to one another about what it was like to play at there, but we never really talked about it in terms of a big picture. Everyone seemed to make their own decision, and everything else just turned out really well for each one of us and our family.”
During his senior year, Scott shared the field with both Chad and Tighe. In 2002, Chad, Tighe and Neil all played together. All four older brothers played professionally after graduation.
"It's great when you can watch your younger brothers grow up as players and people from up close," Chad said. "It's also an advantage knowing teammates so well. It helps mesh a team, because you know the work ethic of your brothers. I don't think I thought as much about it in the moment as I look back now and realize how special it was. All my brothers worked every day to make themselves and the team better."
Mark and Judy Dombrowski have three more children – including two more sons. Quinn is an eighth-grader and Cade is 10. Both play soccer, but only time will tell if they will follow their brothers’ footsteps into black and gold jerseys.
