Vanderbilt announced several multi-million dollar upgrades to the institution’s athletics facilities designed to benefit student-athletes and fans. The complete cost, which includes upgrades to Vanderbilt Stadium, Memorial Gymnasium, Hawkins Field and the McGugin Center, is likely to exceed $50 million.

The five-phase project is already underway and will include the construction of a Vanderbilt Athletics Hall of Fame. Each phase will be completed as funds are available.

The first phase of improvements includes upgrades at Vanderbilt Stadium: concourse improvements, a new exterior façade adjoining the baseball complex and new paint. Locker rooms will be expanded at Memorial Gym and permanent outfield seats will be added at Hawkins Field. The first phase also includes an improved synthetic surface on athletics fields.

Phase II will include more extensive renovations at the stadium and construction of the Vanderbilt Athletics Hall of Fame. Phase III includes renovations at the academic center and to football coaches offices, support staff offices and coaches locker rooms. The fourth phase will continue with stadium renovations and refurbish football locker rooms, equipment rooms and the athletic training rooms as well as the add locker rooms for Olympic sports and additional meeting rooms at the McGugin Center.

The final phase will renovate and expand the dining facility and add office and suites at the McGugin Center.

"This is a significant day for everyone associated with Vanderbilt athletics," Vice Chancellor David Williams said. "When these upgrades are completed, every Vanderbilt student-athlete will enjoy a direct benefit. As well, our reputation as a national competitor in all of our sports, including basketball, baseball and football, will also be strengthened.”
