California State Fullerton will add men’s and women’s golf for the 2009-10 season, the school announced last week. The Titans last sponsored men’s golf in 1987-88 and women’s golf in 1985-86.

“These programs are being brought back primarily due to private donations,” said Athletics Director Brian Quinn. “Our thanks go to the extreme generosity of donors who have committed to raising $2 million for these programs, which will immediately compete in the Big West Conference.”

The teams will practice and compete at several courses in the Fullerton area.

The school named Jason Drotter interim director of golf operations and coach for both teams. Drotter has prep coaching experience and was a golf student-athlete at Long Beach State.

With the addition of the two teams, the Titans will sponsor 17 sports – 10 for women and seven for men.
