The National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame will bestow Legacy Awards on outgoing conference leaders Tom Hansen (Pacific-10), Jeffrey Orleans (Ivy League) and Mike Tranghese (Big East) at the 2008 NFF Annual Awards Dinner December 9.
The Legacy Awards honor individuals and organizations that have made extraordinary contributions to the NFF and its mission of building leaders through football. In 2007, the inaugural year for the awards, winners were Harold Alfond, Dexter Shoe Co. founder; F.M. Kirby, NFF board member emeritus and former Alleghany Corporation chairman; and John Swofford, Atlantic Coast Conference commissioner.
All three 2008 honorees announced their retirement this year.
“These three men embody the term leadership, and they have done amazing work in strengthening the game of football for future generations,” said NFF President Steven J. Hatchell. “On many occasions, the NFF has requested support from the Pacific-10 Conference, the Big East Conference, and the Ivy League, and these three men have never failed to answer the call. We are proud to recognize them for their contributions to our game and our organization.”
