New presidents join Board

The Division I Board of Directors welcomed three new members at its August meeting: Robert Kustra, president of Boise State; Harvey Perlman, chancellor of Nebraska; and John Peters, president of Northern Illinois.

Kustra, president at Boise State since 2003, has a history of public service in Illinois, including two terms as lieutenant governor and 10 years in the state legislature. He has held faculty positions at the University of Illinois at Springfield, Lincoln Land Community College and Loyola (Illinois). He also served as president at Eastern Kentucky.  He holds degrees in political science from Benedictine College in Kansas, Southern Illinois and Illinois.

Perlman was named chancellor at Nebraska in 2001 after serving on an interim basis for nearly a year. He had been dean of the institution’s law school and served as interim senior vice chancellor for academic affairs. He also spent time teaching at Chicago, Virginia, Florida State, Puget Sound and Iowa. He holds a bachelor’s degree and juris doctorate from Nebraska.

Peters became Northern Illinois’ 11th president in 2000 after serving as provost and chief operating officer at Tennessee. He also spent two decades at Nebraska in both faculty and administrative positions.  He holds degrees from John Carroll, Ohio and Illinois.
