The Eastern College Athletic Conference will honor two former student-athletes with the ECAC Commissioner’s Award. Both awards will be given posthumously and accepted by the honoree’s spouse.
The award honors former student-athletes who have demonstrated significant accomplishment in his or her profession or in athletics. Roger Gill, a former standout sprinter for Stony Brook, and Kathy Slattery Phillips, who was Dartmouth’s sports information director, will be recognized.
Gill, a native of Guyana, represented that country at the 1996 Olympics and holds a national record in the 4x400 relay. He was killed in an auto accident on March 2.
Phillips was a newspaper reporter after graduation from Syracuse. She became Dartmouth’s assistant SID in 1977 and was promoted in1983. She died November 21 after a brief illness.
The awards will be presented September 28 during the ECAC Honors Dinner.
