Following is a summary of Division I news from the week of October 6-10.
• The new Administration Cabinet outlined principles it will follow when making committee appointments. The cabinet will focus on finding the best-qualified candidates while also maintaining diversity in the structure.
• A Drexel alumnus donated $1 million to jumpstart a campaign to revive the school’s rowing program. The $3 million campaign is expected to make the Dragons’ rowing team competitive for national and international championships.
• Division I membership requirements could change if legislation requiring schools to provide academic and financial data before joining the division is approved. The proposals are among several in this year’s legislative cycle.
• Georgia State’s Bill Curry, who will coach the Panthers football team when it takes the field in 2010, will receive the 2008 Gerald R. Ford Legends Center Award.
