The following is a summary of Division I News from the week of June 23-27.
• Fresno State won the Division I Baseball Championship, an unlikely victory in a season that saw the Bulldogs tally up 31 losses. One June 25, Fresno State beat Georgia, 6-1, in the final game of a three-game series. Steve Detwiler drove in all six of his team’s runs in the final game and caught the last out of the championship in right field.
• Bernadette McGlade spoke to the Double-A Zone about her new job as commissioner of the Atlantic-10 Conference and the role Title IX played in her life.
• Gonzaga head basketball coach Mark Few and his wife, Marcy, received the World Sports Humanitarian Hall of Fame Nell and John Wooden Coaching Achievement Award for their work off the basketball court.
• Several Ohio State athletics teams worked together to help fight cancer this year.
