The NCAA News

The following is a summary of Division I news from the week of May 26-30.

  • Northwestern’s  women won their fourth consecutive lacrosse title, cementing their status as a lacrosse dynasty. A day later, Syracuse’s men’s team won their own national title, returning to their place among the nation’s elite programs a year after failing to make the NCAA tournament field.
  • The NCAA launched the dashboard indicators program, designed to help institution leaders make better financial decisions when it comes to athletics. The data-management tool allows presidents and other campus leaders to compare their athletics spending with peer groups across 26 indicators without identifying specific schools.
  • Arizona State reinstated its wrestling program less than two weeks after announcing it, along with several other varsity sports, would be eliminated. The program received financial support from boosters and other leadership within the Tempe community. The program will need continued fund-raising to be maintained.
