Division I Rewind
The NCAA News
Following is a summary of Division I News from the week of May 19-23.
- NCAA CFO Jim Isch explained the “dashboard indicators” project – a system that offers comprehensive three-year financial data to presidents and chancellors in a way that allows them to compare their athletics budgets with peer groups. The system was developed in conjunction with the National Association of College and University Business Officers and is expected to help decision-makers evaluate athletics spending. The Presidential Task Force on the Future of Division I Athletics was also a driving force behind development of the dashboard indicators. “Just as the NCAA approached academic reform with the data and metrics upon which to base policy decisions, so, too, is the dashboard effort intended to provide a comprehensive, apples-to-apples comparison that informs presidents of their financial investment in athletics,” Isch said.
- Two journalists at a television station in New Haven, Connecticut won an Emmy for the coverage of the relationship between the women’s ice hockey team at Connecticut and 12-year-old Caitlin Eaton Robb. Robb, who is battling a rare brain condition, corresponds regularly with the student-athletes and has attended practices and sat on the bench for a portion of a game.
- The 2008-09 Bowl Schedule was released, including two new bowls licensed by the NCAA Postseason Football Licensing Committee, the Congressional Bowl set for Washington, D.C. and the St. Petersburg Bowl in St. Petersburg, Florida.
