Conferences: The Big South Conference unveiled the Big South SHOUT, a blog it hopes will serve as an Internet gathering place for people interested in the conference. The blog will offer different angles on league events, activities updates, and an opportunity for readers to interact and provide feedback. Commissioner Kyle Kallander said the blog, in conjunction with the Big South Web site, is part of the league’s strategy for making itself accessible to everyone. “The Big South has always made a strong effort to stay at the forefront of the changing media picture,” Kallander said … The Missouri Valley Conference announced the winners of its Good Neighbor Award: Kelly Krumwiede of Bradley, Sam Schuett of Creighton, Lindsay Whorton of Drake, Rebekah Parker of Evansville, Kristi Cirone of Illinois State, Laura Rudolphi of Indiana State, Amy Crowder of Missouri State, Chris Lawson of Northern Iowa, Erica Smith of Southern Illinois and Whitney Rice of Wichita State … The Colonial Athletic Association will follow its football spring season by enlisting student-athletes from all 12 league schools to contribute to the CAA Football Spring Blog. Last year, the league placed five schools in the Football Championship Subdivision field of 16, with three advancing to the quarterfinals, two to the semifinals and Delaware to the national championship game. So far, contributors include Kervin Michaud, a senior wide receiver from Delaware; Eric Ward, a junior quarterback from Richmond; Corey Thomas, a senior defensive lineman from Northeastern; and Andrew Downey, a senior linebacker from Maine … The Southern Conference named the six recipients of the league’s postgraduate scholarships. Winners include: James Eason, The Citadel; Dianna Thomas, Appalachian State; Page Bridges, Furman; Brenna Burns, Davidson; Joe Watson, Furman; and Lauren Bosshardt, Wofford.
Miscellaneous: Wake Forest won the second annual Hoops for Hunger Food Drive, donating $2,829.99 in cash and 1,036 pounds of food. The food drive pits seven North Carolina universities against each other in a bid to make the largest donations to fight hunger. Wake Forest’s donations will benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina. North Carolina, North Carolina Central, North Carolina State, Duke, East Carolina and North Carolina Wesleyan also participated. Donations from all seven schools totaled 5,055 pounds of food and $6,506. The winner was determined on a per-capita basis.
