Milestones: Baylor women's basketball coach Kim Mulkey earned her 200th career victory January 23 when the Lady Bears defeated Missouri, 72-57. It was the tenth straight win for Baylor. Mulkey, 200-54, is the sixth-fastest Division I women's coach to reach her 200th win. Jhasmin Player led the team with 18 points, followed by Danielle Wilson who put up 16. The Lady Bears are now 17-1 this season … Georgia's Andy Landers picked up his 700th win January 24 when his team beat Florida, 82-55. Landers is the eighth coach to reach the milestone and has earned all 700 wins at Georgia. He is in his 29th season with the Lady Bulldogs and the team is 16-3.
Miscellaneous: The Missouri Valley Conference recognized ten student-athletes with the State Farm/MVC Good Neighbor Award. Honorees are: Todd Reddy, Bradley; Karin Tanimoto, Creighton; Lauren Hoguta, Drake; Daniel Gibson, Evansville; Luke Drone, Illinois State; Shae Fehribach, Indiana State; Carrie Vestal, Southern Illinois; and Sara Lungren, Wichita State. Student-athletes who receive the award are in good academic standing, demonstrate good citizenship and participate in a sport. Students are recognized three times annually… The National Consortium for Academics and Sports announced the names of student-athletes recognized on the Outreach Honor Roll and Degree Completion Honor Roll for the 2006-07 year. Based on numbers collected from the 224 member institutions, the NCAS recognizes the top 15-20 percent as honor roll members, based on statistics describing time and impact in the community and tuition assistance to student-athletes after eligibility is exhausted. Receiving top honors on the Outreach Honor Roll was Florida State, followed by Nebraska and Maryland. Oklahoma led the Degree Completion Honor Roll, and Ohio State and Kentucky rounded out the top three. The full honor roll is available at the NCAS Web site.
