UC Davis baseball Coach Rex Peters earned his 400th career victory March 15 when the Aggies defeated Santa Clara, 12-5. Peters quickly picked up his 401st victory when his team took the second game of the doubleheader later that afternoon.
After victories over Gonzaga, Saint Mary’s (California), Pacific, Sacramento and another over Santa Clara, his record now stands at 408-241-3. He picked up 118 of those wins at Division III Chapman, where he is the winningest coach in school history.
Before his coaching career, Peters spent four years playing in the Los Angeles Dodgers system and in 1989 was named the most valuable player for the Salem Dodgers.
College of Charleston’s Angelo Anastopoulo, head women’s tennis coach, collected his 300th victory March 27 with the Cougars’ 6-1 win over Charleston Southern. College of Charleston is now 16-2 on the season.
Anastopoulo said victory No. 300 was sweet, but it felt better to hang onto Charleston city bragging rights. With victories over Davidson and North Carolina-Greensboro, Anastopoulo now has 303 wins.
