Deneé Barracato, most recently assistant director of athletics and senior woman administrator at Adelphi University, will join the NCAA staff as an associate director for the Division I Women’s Basketball Championship beginning September 29.
At Adelphi, Barracato helped manage the athletics budget for scholarships while serving as a sports supervisor, compliance officer, student-athlete academic progress monitor, events manager and coordinator of the Champs/Life Skills program. Before her promotion to assistant director of athletics, Barracato was the event manager and special project coordinator for Adelphi from 2003-06.
She came to Adelphi from Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola, New York, where she worked in 2002-03 as a public relations representative and community educator. She has served as an adjunct professor and instructor at both Adelphi and St. John’s (New York).
Barracato holds a master of arts in sports management and physical education from Adelphi, and a bachelor of arts in liberal arts and graphic design from Hofstra. A former collegiate student-athlete, she lettered for the Hofstra basketball team for four years and was a third-team America East all-conference selection in 1999. After graduation from Hofstra, she played in the Women’s Professional League in Puerto Rico through 2001, and was a member of the Atlanta Justice of The National Women’s Basketball League in 2001-02.
