Arizona dedicated two new facilities this week, officially opening the new Richard Jefferson Gymnasium and the Kasser Family Pool.

The 20,000-square foot gym is a multipurpose facility that includes two full-court basketball courts and room for other basketball and volleyball courts. It is named for Richard Jefferson, who donated $3.5 million toward a fund-raising campaign to pay for facility upgrades at the Tucson campus. Jefferson played basketball for the Wildcats from 1998-2001 and currently plays in the NBA for the Milwaukee Bucks.

Jefferson credited former Arizona men’s basketball coach Lute Olson with inspiring him to become successful on and off the basketball court.

“Without coach Olson, none of this would be possible,” Jefferson said.

The new pool features two 1-meter and three 3-meter springboards and diving platforms at 3, 5, 7.5 and 10 meters. Michael Kasser is a local real estate businessman who moved to Tucson with his family in 1994. The Kassers have contributed to Arizona athletics in the past, as well as to several academic programs at the school.
