Lauren Howell of Mount St. Mary’s tied the NCAA Division I record for consecutive three-pointers made with 14 straight in an 88-62 loss to Robert Morris in Northeast Conference women’s basketball action February 2.
Howell entered the contest with 11 straight treys after connecting on her final shot against Saint Francis (Pennsylvania) January 24, hitting three against Long Island two days later and knocking down a program-best seven three-pointers against Wagner January 31.
The freshman drained her first three treys in the game against Robert Morris. The record-tying basket came at the 4:58 mark in the first half, equaling a 12-year-old record set by Deana Lansing of Portland, who converted 14 three-point baskets in a three-game span in February 1996. Howell's streak ended on a blocked shot with 47 seconds left in the stanza. She finished the game with 11 points and five rebounds in her first collegiate start.
“It was great to knock down my shots when my teammates got me the ball and I am really honored to be able to tie the record,” said Howell. “It’s a great feeling, and I wouldn’t have been able to do it without the help and support of my coaches and teammates.”
