The Women's Basketball Coaches Association has announced its 2007-08 Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll, which recognizes teams in Divisions I, II and III that carry the highest grade-point averages for the entire season (based on nomination from WBCA-member head coaches).
Winners in each division were South Dakota State (Division I, 3.669 team GPA), South Dakota (Division II, 3.649) and Concordia (Wisconsin) (Division III, 3.637).
“Those GPAs would be notable for one student-athlete alone, but for an entire team to compile them is truly remarkable,” said WBCA CEO Beth Bass.
South Dakota State claimed the top spot in Division I for the third consecutive year, while South Dakota and Concordia are first-time divisional winners.
GPAs are calculated by dividing the total number of quality points earned by each student-athlete on an institution’s roster in the given academic terms by the total number of hours earned by the team. The GPAs are rounded to the nearest thousandth of a point. Teams must obtain at least a 3.000 overall GPA.
