The Women's Basketball Coaches Association has announced its winners for the 2008 WBCA Superlatives for NCAA Division I and II.
Nominations for the awards were submitted through an online survey form. The top vote-getters for each superlative were then voted on through a balloting process, with the top vote-getter for each category being named the winner.
Those garnering recognition in Division I were:
Most inspirational: Kay Yow (North Carolina State).
Most likely to get a technical foul: Geno Auriemma (Connecticut).
Best pep band: Tennessee.
Rising star: Coquese Washington (Penn State).
Best coaching combo: Pat Summitt/Holly Warlick (Tennessee).
Most fun to watch (coach or institution): Sherri Coale (Oklahoma).
Best community support: Tennessee.
Best tradition: Tennessee.
Best host school: Tennessee.
Most competitive coach: Pat Summitt.
Those selected in Division II were:
Most inspirational: Barbara Stevens (Bentley).
Most likely to get a technical foul: David Smith (Bellarmine).
Best pep band: North Dakota.
Rising star: Ashlee Kelly (Mercy).
Best coaching combo: Barbara Stevens/Christine White (Bentley).
Most fun to watch (Coach or School): North Dakota.
Best community support: North Dakota.
Best tradition: North Dakota.
Best host school: Stonehill.
Most competitive coach: Gene Roebuck (North Dakota).
This is the second year that the WBCA has conducted this survey among its membership.
