The NCAA News

The Double-A Zone, the NCAA’s official blog, will be on the campuses of Claflin State University and South Carolina State University October 10-12. The blog will cover events surrounding South Carolina State’s homecoming and will also profile Claflin, a recent addition to Division II.

Both Claflin and South Carolina State are historically black colleges, and the Double-A Zone will attempt to capture the unique atmosphere and traditions of these HBCUs. For the first time, the blog will use Twitter – a microblogging social network – to give users a real-time experience.

Readers of the blog can follow the Double-A Zone on its official Twitter page, www.twitter.com/NCAADoubleAZone. The Twitter posts will also be featured on the homepage of the Double-A Zone and on the Double-A Zone FaceBook page.

In addition to coverage on the Double-A Zone, the NCAA will also produce a video on each college, which will appear on NCAA.org.

The video feature on South Carolina State will focus on the rich traditions surrounding the school’s homecoming and athletics department. Video from the annual Greek step show, parade and tailgates will be highlighted, and the university president, athletics director, sports information director and football coach will be interviewed.

Claflin’s video will focus on the school’s decision to become a member of Division II. The university president, athletics director, men’s and women’s basketball coaches and many student-athletes will share their impressions as a new member of the NCAA.

The NCAA plans to highlight athletics traditions from other colleges and universities and will accept video submissions and ideas from our member institutions for posting on NCAA.org. Those interested in having their school featured should contact Associate Director of New Media Marta Lawrence at mhlawrence@ncaa.org.
