The NCAA Group Basic Accident Medical Program will use a series of regional seminars to demonstrate its "track record" for helping schools keep insurance expenses down while providing effective claims administration.

The 10 seminars, scheduled at locations around the country from February 28 through April 16, seek to further spread the word about the program's best-practices approach to insuring medical expenses up to the $75,000 deductible of the Association's catastrophic-injury insurance program.

Nearly 100 schools from all NCAA membership divisions already are participating in the initiative -- a group that enables the program to  maximize discounts with medical-services providers; cap insurance company profits; and better manage costs associated with athletics injuries.

The seminars' dates and sites are:

  • Indianapolis -- NCAA National Office, February 28 (10:30 a.m.)
  • Madison, Wisconsin -- Edgewood College, February 29 (10:30 a.m.)
  • Boston -- Boston College, March 3 (10:30 a.m.)
  • Morgantown, West Virginia -- West Virginia University, March 5 (10:30 a.m.)
  • Philadelphia -- Temple University, March 11 (10:30 a.m.)
  • Hayward, California -- California State University, East Bay, March 14 (10:30 a.m.)
  • Arlington, Texas -- University of Texas at Arlington, March 25 (10:30 a.m.)
  • Richmond, Virginia -- University of Richmond, March 27 (11:30 a.m.)
  • Kansas City, Missouri -- Rockhurst University, April 11 (1 p.m.)
  • Atlanta -- Embassy Suites Hotel (Downtown), April 16 (10:30 a.m.)

The program also features a claims management service that enables online tracking of insurance information, as well as access to an assigned claims management specialist who will assist in managing payment of claims.

The program is a partnership involving the NCAA; American Specialty Insurance and Risk Management Services, the Association's longtime insurance and risk management administrator; Mutual of Omaha Insurance Company, which provides claims management services; and Summit America Insurance Services, which specializes in providing basic accident insurance plans to fit institutions' needs.

Registration is now open for the two-hour seminars at the program's Web site http://www.summitamerica-ins.com/products/ICS/NCAA/NCAA_Main.asp. All but two of the seminars will be presented on the campuses of NCAA member institutions. Detailed information about each seminar site and further information about the program also is available from the program Web site.
