The College Sports Information Directors of America selected Sarah Pavan, a volleyball student-athlete from Nebraska, and Troy Ruths, a basketball student-athlete from Washington U. in St. Louis, as the 2007-08 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-Americans of the Year.
Pavan is the first repeat Academic All-American since CoSIDA began recognizing scholar-athletes in 1988. Pavan set school records with 2,008 career kills and 4.56 kills per game. She is a recipient of an NCAA postgraduate scholarship and says academics have always been a priority for her.
Ruths was the Division III National Player of the Year, leading the Bears to a national championship in 2008. A three-time selection as an Academic All-American, Ruths was also named most outstanding player at the 2008 Division III Men’s Basketball Championship. Ruths will begin studying for a doctorate in computer science from Rice later this month.
