The NCAA Honors Committee is accepting nominations online for the Theodore Roosevelt, Silver Anniversary, Inspiration and Valor Awards through August 1.

Nominations also are solicited for the Today’s Top VIII, which honors current student-athletes. Names of student-athletes who exhausted their eligibility following the 2007 winter and 2008 spring sports seasons may be submitted for consideration by August 1. Nominations will reopen in the fall to review nominees who will complete their eligibility during fall 2008 sports.

The “Teddy,” the Association’s highest honor, the Silver and Today’s Top VIII are awarded annually during the Honors Celebration at the NCAA Convention. Recipients of the Inspiration and Valor Awards, which are not automatically presented each year, also are recognized during the event.

Schools may nominate more than one person for the same award and may submit the names of multiple individuals for multiple honors. Conferences are asked to strongly encourage the member institutions to participate in the selection process.

In a slight change in the criteria for the Silver Anniversary award, the Honors Committee will now base eligibility for the award on when a candidate’s athletics eligibility ended rather than on the graduation date. This year, nominations are sought for former student-athletes who exhausted their eligibility during the 1983-84 academic year.

Award winners will be announced this winter. All honorees are expected to be in attendance at the Honors Celebration (only Valor and Inspiration Awards may be presented posthumously). The 2009 Honors Celebration will be January 15 in Washington, D.C.
