The Sports Museum of America will open in New York City on May 7. The museum will feature exhibits that pay tribute to the history and significance in sports in our nation.

The facility, located in lower Manhattan, will house the Billie Jean King International Women’s Sports Center, including the first hall of fame dedicated to athletes and administrators in women’s sports. The center will offer interactive exhibits showcasing the accomplishments of women in athletics.

The museum was created in collaboration with more than 50 single-sport halls of fame, museums, national governing bodies and sports organizations from across the country, including the NCAA Hall of Champions, the Women’s Sports Foundation and the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. It will offer an interactive experience with more than 600 artifacts; 24 mechanical and computer interactive exhibits; 1,100 photographs; 20 films; and 19 galleries.

In addition to the women’s sports center, other exhibits will feature the Heisman Trophy and its history and individual galleries dedicated to auto racing, baseball, basketball, football and hockey.

Members of the honorary board of trustees include cyclist Lance Armstrong, soccer hall of famer Michelle Akers, Olympic hockey player Jim Craig, basketball hall of famer Ann Meyers Drysdale, broadcaster Dick Enberg, softball gold medalist Lisa Fernandez and sports artist LeRoy Neiman

General admission will be $27, and tickets go on sale to the public at 9 a.m. (Eastern time) April 4. Advance tickets are recommended and can be purchased online.
