The NCAA has hired former Ball State golf student-athlete Steve Brown as director of championships business operations and strategies. Brown, who began at the national office September 22, will oversee specified NCAA championships business and operations systems and processes.
Brown comes to the NCAA after having been an attorney engaged in both private and corporate practice. He has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration and marketing from Ball State and a doctor of jurisprudence from the Indiana University School of Law.
His new duties with the NCAA championships staff include research, analysis and development of recommendations. Those reports will help improve championships operations, encourage fiscal and resource efficiency, and enhance the value of championships as they relate to corporate and broadcast partners and revenue generation.
In addition to his background in private practice, Brown also has experience as a higher-education finance executive, serving as senior vice president and deputy general counsel at a local nonprofit organization, where he oversaw corporate governance, transactions and employees’ retirement investment plans, among other duties.
