The NCAA’s 88th and final championship of 2007-08 concludes this week with a best-of-three series between bracket winners in the Men’s College World Series in Omaha. Games are scheduled tonight and Tuesday, with a decisive third game set for Wednesday night if needed.
The committees that oversee championships in each of the three divisions also gather this week.
The Division I Championships/Competition Cabinet will meet beginning tomorrow for the final time under the existing Division I governance structure. Its successor in the new governance structure, the Division I Championship Cabinet, will convene for the first time in mid-September.
The Divisions II and III Championships Committees’ meetings are under way today in San Diego and Indianapolis, respectively.
Various sport-specific committees that oversee championships also are meeting this week, including panels overseeing the National Collegiate Women’s Bowling Championship, Divisions I and III women’s golf, and Divisions I and II women’s rowing. In a key divisional meeting, the Division II Legislation Committee also meets beginning today in Boston.
Later this week, the first of five sessions of the Leadership Institute for Ethnic Minority Males and Females begins in Indianapolis. The 12-month leadership and skills-development program seeks to address the shortage of senior-level professionals of color in intercollegiate athletics.
