The NCAA News

The two finalists in the Women’s College World Series start this week on a high note with a best-two-of-three Championship Series that begins tonight in Oklahoma City.

Then, Division I baseball will be back in the spotlight this weekend with super-regional competition. Winners will advance to the Men’s College World Series June 14-25 in Omaha, Nebraska.

As the 2007-08 NCAA championships begin to wind down, the committees that govern the conduct of those championships kick off a slate of annual meetings this week. The committees that oversee men’s and women’s ice hockey championships (as well as playing rules) and Division II men’s basketball are the first of numerous sports committees that will meet throughout the summer months.

Also on the committee front, the Association-wide panel that oversees sportsmanship and ethical-conduct matters will meet today and tomorrow in Boston.

The last of this year’s two annual Regional Rules Seminars -- a key event for administrators of athletics programs in all three NCAA divisions -- is underway in San Antonio. Today, Division III will host the last of its three Town Hall Meetings addressing membership growth.

Later this week, another class will gather in Dallas for the annual NCAA Expert Coaches Forum, which seeks to equip participants with skills needed in securing, managing and excelling in head football coaching positions. Four current head coaches of color who have been hired since 2005 to lead Division I Football Bowl or Football Championship Subdivision programs are past participants in the program.
