The Women's Basketball Coaches Association announced that more than 600 schools have committed to participating in the 2008 WBCA's "Think Pink" initiative.

The effort among WBCA coaches aims to raise breast cancer awareness on the court, on campuses and in communities. The week set aside for this year's initiative is February 8 - 17, though some schools will conduct their events at other times.

Among the plans are wearing pink uniforms, inviting breast cancer survivors to games, wearing pink shooting shirts, asking all fans to wear pink, and raffling pink basketballs. Each school has been provided with access to logos, product ideas, promotional ideas, flyers, breast cancer facts and product offerings. That information is at www.wbca.org/thinkpink.asp.

The NCAA has also joined the WBCA's "Think Pink" initiative by implementing the "Calling for a Cure" campaign in which all NCAA women's basketball officials will be blowing a pink whistle in games from February 8-17. Additionally, officials are encouraged to donate to the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund. Yow, the head women's basketball coach at North Carolina State, has battled breast cancer since first being diagnosed in 1987.
