Rix Yard, who coached under Woody Hayes at Denison from 1946-49, passed away on January 17 at the age of 90.

Yard went on to head up a 12-sport program as athletics director at Denison until 1963, when he took over the reins of the Tulane athletics department. He remained as athletics director at Tulane until 1976.

nullAfter his retirement as athletics director, Yard remained at the university as professor of physical education and director of intramural and club sports until 1982.

Earlier this year, he was honored at halftime of a men's lacrosse game at Denison. More than 30 friends, family and former players attended the ceremony, which unveiled a bust of the longtime coach and administrator that now is displayed at Denison's Livingstone Gymnasium.

Yard, who earned lacrosse coach of the year honors in 1963, is a member of the National Association of College Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Hall of Fame.
