• Why don’t we pay student-athletes?  Find out what NCAA President Myles Brand has to say.  “The marketplace isn’t a place for every, or even most, programs in college sports,” Brand writes. “They are not going to realize sufficient return for those investments to generate excess revenues”

• College football teams are in the early stages of preseason practice and the headlines are rife with student-athlete arrests and suspensions.  Does the media give student-athletes a bad rap?

• “Like school girls nervous about their first day of class,” wrote the AP, “several members of the U.S. softball team laid out their new uniforms the night before their Olympic opener. They couldn’t wait to wear them, and once they slipped them on, the Americans looked a lot like they did four years ago. Superb.”  Is sexism alive and well in coverage of women’s athletics?
