The NCAA News

This week on the Double-A Zone:

·         Should student-athletes be allowed go Greek?  Greek life is a big part of most college campuses around the country and many student-athletes actively participate. Many people say that their fraternity or sorority experience was the best part of their college years.  Given the time requirements of these organizations, should coaches allow their student-athletes to participate?

·         When Alabama lead Georgia 31-0 at the half, the Georgia fans didn’t lose faith.  As the team came back on the field, fans cheered and gave their team a standing ovation.  How could the Georgia fans actually give their team that kind of positive support when they just played arguably the worst half of football in the school's history?  To their credit, the support worked and the Bulldogs made a contest out of the otherwise out-of-hand game.  Can others learn from Georgia’s example?

·         Amateurism is a very tough and complicated issue and the NCAA will struggle to maintain the principle of amateurism in years to come.  The problem is made more complex by a number of factors, including the current regulations governing the use of student-athletes' images and likenesses that are woefully outdated and an increase in international prospective student-athletes from countries that view athletics participation completely differently than we do in the United States.  What do you think can be done to preserve the amateurism of student-athletes?

·         Traditions make college athletics unique.  What traditions make your athletics programs special?
