This week on the Double-A Zone:

Women's pro sports suffer cuts

The WNBA announced this week that it would shut down the celebrated Houston Comets after the team failed to find a new suitable owner. The news comes just a few weeks after the LPGA announced it would cut three tournaments and reduce payouts to accommodate tough economic times.

Women's professional sports play an important inspirational role for young women seeking a career in athletics. If steps aren't taken to ensure their future viability, the impact could be significant for women's athletics as a whole.

What do you think will happen to women's professional sports in the future?

Inconsistencies hamper BCS system

College football's season-long Division I FBS playoff is winding down, and it's proving to be one of the most exciting and controversial years in recent memory.

You'll hear people argue that college football needs a playoff with X number of teams so that it all gets settled on the field. Frankly, no one can argue that it wouldn't be an awesome few weeks of football.

While many would love to see this March Madness-like playoff in football, there's something great about every regular-season game playing such a pivotal role in the national championship race. A season-ending playoff would devalue the best regular season of any college or professional sport.

What do you think about the current BCS system?

Resignation renews concerns over minorities in coaching

With Sylvester Croom resigning last Saturday, there are now only three black coaches at the 119 major college football programs -- Miami's Randy Shannon, Buffalo's Turner Gill and Houston's Kevin Sumlin. It is the lowest number of black head coaches since 1993 and marks a regression in the opportunities extended to minorities in high-level, high-profile athletics jobs. Croom was the first black head coach in the SEC.

What do you think should be done to increase opportunities for minorities and females in coaching and athletics administration?
