CoSIDA to honor Packer

CBS Sports broadcaster Billy Packer will receive the 2008 Jake Wade Award from the College Sports Information Directors of America, the organization announced.

The award is presented annually to someone who has made an osutstanding contribution in the media to the field of intercollegiate athletics. Previous recipients include Dick Enberg, Robin Roberts, Christine Brennan and Dick Vitale. It is named for former North Carolina sports information director and journalist Jake Wade.

Packer called his 100th Final Four game in 2008. He has been lead analyst for CBS Sports college basketball for 27 years. He first entered broadcasting in 1972 covering Atlantic Coast Conference games.
