Towson Associate Sports Information Director Dan O’Connell will receive the Lester Jordan Award from the College Sports Information Directors of America. The award honors an individual for service to the association’s Academic All-America program and the promotion of the ideals of being a student-athlete.
O’Connell is one of the longest-tenured members of the Academic All-America Committee. He joined the group in 1987 and has been national coordinator for the past five years.
He began working in sports information while a student at Loyola College (Maryland). After graduation he became the SID at UMBC. He joined the Towson staff in 1979.
In addition to his duties at Towson, he is an active member of the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Sports Information Directors Association and is part of the NFL’s official statistics crew for Baltimore Ravens home games.
