The College Sports Information Directors of America named John Humenik, a member of the organization's Hall of Fame, to be executive director beginning March 1.

Humenik served as sports information director at Princeton and Michigan before spending his last 20 years at Florida. He was inducted into CoSIDA's Hall of Fame in 1993, the youngest person to receive the honor. Since leaving Florida in 2002, Humenik has been an acquisitions editor for Sports Publishing LLC.

Last summer, CoSIDA members voted to hire an executive director to run the organization, handling day-to-day operations and developing short- and long-term plans for CoSIDA. The search for candidates began shortly after the vote was taken.

“Throughout our search process, John Humenik’s name kept coming up as the best person to lead our organization,” said Charles Bloom, associate commissioner of the Southeastern Conference and CoSIDA President.  “John has the skill, passion and understanding of CoSIDA and its members to build a bright future for the organization.”

Humenik said he feels blessed and grateful for the opportunity.

“I truly appreciate the trust bestowed upon me by the organization’s board of directors and leadership, and I feel very honored and humbled to represent a professional membership and organization that ranks, in my opinion, as arguably the most noble, industrious and dedicated in all of collegiate sports management,” he said.

Humenik is the recipient of several awards, including the Arch Ward Award, the Lester Jordan Award and the Dick Enberg Award. He also helped oversee the CoSIDA Academic All-America Committee.

“This organization and profession has provided me with so many wonderful experiences, challenges and friendships throughout my professional career and it is a truly a great honor to now be placed into a position that I can pay it back as a dedicated career servant,” he said.   "I’m excited in so many ways to work with the organization’s leadership to tackle the opportunities and challenges that are before us.”
